About Us
Founded in 2016 by physician-scientists, Cartesian is a fully-integrated biopharmaceutical company where discovery, cGMP manufacturing, and clinical operations all happen under one roof. Our integrated approach is designed to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration to rapidly translate discoveries into clinical trials, and trials into approved products. While most cell and gene therapy companies outsource manufacturing to a third-party vendor, we manufacture and release our investigational therapies “in house” to ensure the highest product quality, consistency, and potency. All investigational therapies are manufactured at Cartesian’s wholly-owned, state-of-the-art cGMP manufacturing facility in Gaithersburg, MD.
Leadership Team
Cartesian’s founding members, Chief Executive Officer Murat Kalayoglu MD, PhD and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Michael Singer MD, PhD are serial life sciences entrepreneurs. Their most recent venture, Topokine Therapeutics, was acquired by Allergan in April 2016. Cartesian’s leadership includes the former National Cancer Institute (NCI) Director, Dr. John Niederhuber; the former President of Pfizer R&D, Dr. John LaMattina; and three prominent physician-scientists recognized for their work in immunotherapy of multiple myeloma, including Dr. Ken Anderson, Dr. Ola Landgren and Dr. Ivan Borrello.
